How Can I Love Myself a Little Bit More Today?

Years ago she walked into my NYC office with complaints of arthritis and inflammation. We spent an hour discussing how to help her body heal and re-balance itself. She sat with silver hair, in her 70s, and there was something very special about her.

When she was about to leave she cupped my face in between her hands. Looking into my eyes with a gentle smile on her face, she said to me,:

“Robin, you are so beautiful. Today is as good as it gets. Ten years from now you will wish you looked like you do today. Make sure to smile, and enjoy the beautiful face and body you have been given. It is absolutely perfect. Stop hiding yourself. Let go of all shame and stop comparing yourself to others. You are so hard on yourself. Stop being so hard on yourself and start being more gentle.”

That day my relationship with my body changed. It wasn’t as if I woke up and had a huge epiphany the next day. I didn’t. I still looked in the mirror and saw the dimples on my butt and the lines around my eyes. I saw little scars where pimples had left their mark. I still easily saw all of what most would call imperfections.

However, after she shared her wisdom with me, the next morning… and every morning after… I began to ask myself a simple question…

How can I love myself a little bit more today?

I realized that by asking this simple question I would receive insight. I realized that I didn’t need to be disappointed in myself. Instead, I realized that I needed to accept myself just like I was if I wanted to be happy. I also realized that I honestly had no clue of how to begin doing that.

When I don’t know something, I ask a question to someone that I feel would be able to support clarity for me. Because of this, it made sense to me that I could take a deep breath each morning and ask the wiser part of myself that simple question, “How can I love myself more today?” and most likely get answers. Guess what? That is exactly what happened.

Ideas started to flow every time I would ask that question and, sure enough, all kinds of random ideas would surface. Ideas about how I could love myself more that day. Little by little the self hatred and judgment began to dissolve. Little by little the self hatred and judgment was replaced with self confidence and love.

So often we forget that inside of our Hearts we hold the key to the greatest answers that we are searching for. @intuitionheals (Click to Tweet!)

The next time you look in the mirror and think something negative, take a deep compassionate breath and ask yourself how you can love yourself just a little bit more today. Listen for the answers. They will come. I promise.
